Kirkwood Black History: A Musical Journey
Featuring Kirkwood's Own Malena Smith
With Tillman Pepper Steppers and the Kirkwood High School Vocal Jazz Ensemble
A Musical Journey Through Black History is an exclusive and celebratory benefit concert honoring the importance of music in the lives of Kirkwood's Black Citizens.
To hear singer-songwriter Malena Smith sing is to savor a voice distilled from every corner of the American songbook. A Kirkwood, Missouri native, Malena is a second-generation graduate of Kirkwood High School (KHS) and her family has been a part of the community for over 50 years.
Proceeds from this event will directly benefit the Kirkwood Historical Society, supporting vital preservation and educational initiatives that celebrate the rich history of Kirkwood's Black community.
